Fix Up Your Smile

Dr. Robert Warner talks with his brother, Dr. Richard Warner, about fixing up a smile.
There are many "problems" that people can have with their teeth. Maybe they have a gap between their front teeth. Maybe their smile looks crocked.
Dr. Richard Warner advises if the only time you think about these things is sitting in the dentist office, it probably isn't worth worrying about.
If, however, it is something that makes you uncomfortable on a regular basis, there are many ways to correct your teeth.
Every case is somewhat different, so talk to your dentist first.
Some options include orthodontics, composite composite resin, or a crown.
Orthodontics is the most germinate option. Composite are easy to rearrange; there is no damage to the tooth. Crowns permanently alter the tooth during installation and can not be removed.

Dentures

Dr. Robert Warner talks with his brother, Dr. Richard Warner, about caring for your dentures.
Once the teeth come out, the bone starts to wither. After a while, dentures may not align very well.
Denture patients should still see their dentists once a year.
Avoid using a hard bristle brush on your gums or dentures. If you get some tarter on your dentures, your dentist can clean them for you. Don't try to clean them with a pocket knife, you could wear grooves in your dentures that will pick up plaque and stain.

Care for your Gums

Dr. Robert Warner asks his brother, Dr. Richard Warner, about brushing your gums.
One of the biggest problems many people have when taking care of their gums is brushing too hard. Even when using an electric tooth brush, it is still easy to brush too hard.
When cleaning your gums, you should use a soft bristled brush and use a soft jiggeling motion along where your gum meets the tooth. Think of it more as a masage then brushing.

Dental Retainers

Dr. Robert Warner talks with his brother, Dr. Richard Warner, about retainers.
According to Dr. Richard Warner, retainers are necessary to keep teeth from shifting after braces about half the time. The trouble is, there's no way to tell if somebody needs retainers or not, until it is too late.
After you have had your retainers for a while, you could try skipping them for one day. If they are snug or difficult to put in the next day, you need to wear them everyday. If they just snap right in, try skipping two days.
The same can be said of partial dentures.
Of course you should always follow the orders from your own orthodontist. If you stop wearing your retainers, you risk your teeth shifting back to where they were before you had braces.

Exercising

Dr. Robert Warner and his brother Dr. Richard Warner talk about the merits of exercise.
Exercise doesn't burn many calories on it's own. Likewise, one can not just rely on diet. It takes a combination of the right work out and eating the right things.
Exercise also helps increase the metabolism. The more you work out, the more calories you can burn doing the same amount of exercise.
